Kenya Police finally lift KPL title after 11-year-long wait

After 11 years of waiting, Kenya Police lifted their first FKF Premier League title on Sunday after the curtains came down on the 2024-2025 season.

Before the kick-off, the trophy was presented at the stadium by former Kenyan international defender George Sunguti.

Gor Mahia honoured the new champions with a guard of honour, a fitting gesture for Police FC’s extraordinary turnaround.

The Law Enforcers, which was founded in 2014, rallied from behind to hold record Kenyan champions Gor Mahia to a 1-1 draw in the final match of the season played at the fully packed Ulinzi Sports Complex.

Shariff Musa struck in the 24th minute to hand K'Ogalo a slender 1-0 halftime advantage in the match played for bragging rights rather than to determine the champions.

David Okoth ensured the thousands of Police fans at Ulinzi would celebrate their maiden title without suffering a last-day defeat when he scored the equaliser in the 56th minute of the final half.

With the draw, Police finish top of the 18-team standings with 65 points, six ahead of Gor, who relinquish not only the title they have won for the past two years but also their spot in the CAF Champions League next season.

For Gor, their only pathway to play in continental football remains the FKF Cup, which they must win when they face Nairobi United in the finals to punch their ticket to play in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Kakamega Homeboyz finished third with 38 points after a 0-0 draw against Tusker, followed by Shabana with 57 points after a 1-1 draw with Ulinzi Stars.
