The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has raised the alarm over rising cases of online impersonation, cautioning the public against interacting with fraudulent social media pages falsely claiming to represent the agency.

In a public notice issued Monday, KUCCPS Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mercy Wahome disowned a Facebook page operating under the name “KUCCPS News”, stating that it has no affiliation with the official placement agency.

“Anyone engaging with the Facebook page and similar social media platforms, or the persons operating them, does so at their own risk. KUCCPS does not take responsibility for any information posted on these platforms,” the agency warned.

The agency expressed concern over the increasing misuse of its identity on social media, noting that such acts are not only misleading but also illegal.

KUCCPS emphasized that its official name and acronym are legally protected, and any unauthorized use could result in legal action.

“The acronym KUCCPS is a core component of the identity and intellectual property of the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service. Its unauthorized use is not only deceptive to the public but also constitutes a violation of the law,” read part of the notice.

KUCCPS further urged Kenyans to remain vigilant and to verify information through its official website and verified social media accounts. The agency advised those who may have been duped by fake platforms to report the matter to the police.

“Anyone who may have fallen victim to users of online platforms impersonating KUCCPS is advised to report to the police,” the agency said.

The warning comes amid heightened anxiety among students and parents over university placements, making the public more vulnerable to misinformation and fraud.
