A YouTuber and a preacher are both facing a cyberbullying case at the Makadara Law Courts. This was after the preacher, while being interviewed, made serious damning allegations of human sacrifices and siphoning of wealth by Jesus Winners Church.

The YouTuber, who doubles as a gospel artist, Mathew Mwangi Gitonga, and the preacher, Grace Wangui Ndinguri, were both presented before Senior Principal Magistrate Paul Rotich to face the charges, to which they pleaded not guilty.

Wangui had been hosted on Gitonga’s channel when she depicted the Church of Jesus Winner, led by Bishop Edward Mwai, as a cult in the making.

Gitonga was charged alongside Wangui, who listed two other popular churches in Nairobi. The mentioned churches, she claimed, were brainwashing and sacrificing humans after ensuring the wealth and properties of the faithful had been surrendered.

During plea taking, the court learnt that Wangui made the allegations during the interview on 28 August 2025 through a YouTube channel dubbed Ruco Mwangi Revival Kenya.

Gitonga, without lawful excuse, is accused of posting the video that was indecent and grossly offensive, which affected Jesus Winner Church.

The duo, however, is charged with cyber harassment contrary to Section 27 (1) (a) (b) (c) of the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime Act of 2018.

The chairman of the alleged church, Boniface Maina Iregi, informed the authorities after he stumbled upon a two-hour video where Wangui was being questioned by Gitonga. At some point, she accused Bishop Mwai of taking away people’s property and finally sacrificing them.

Wangui, according to Mwai, proceeded to allude that many people had lost their lives in that church and labelled him a bad and evil person. Mwai reported the matter to authorities in Kasarani, prompting immediate investigations.

Gitonga was arrested in Nakuru on August 30, two days after publishing the jaw-dropping allegations. On the flip side, Wangui was summoned, recorded her statement, and both were released on cash bail.

She confessed to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) that she is a Christ Ambassador and that she possesses a gift of prophecy and intercession.

She revealed to detectives that she had no intention of maligning the church but was determined to save innocent lives and educate vulnerable Kenyans not to fall for such gullible churches, and to prevent another Shakahola tragedy, where hundreds were made to sell everything they had in their possession and allegedly starved to death by a religious cult.

Ms Wangui, further in her statement, pointed an accusing finger at the government for failing to regulate and shut down rogue churches that engage in extreme practices such as human sacrifices.

She claimed that she was forced to step in and do the Lord’s work of pacifying gullible members of the public from predatory churches and church leaders, who she claimed are exploiting members sexually and financially.

Kasarani DCI have now written to the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) to preserve the said clip on Gitonga’s YouTube channel to prevent the YouTuber from pulling it down and evading lawful accountability.

Further, the DCI have urged an unnamed organisation to help them translate the entire video in which the accused persons are said to have made utterances during an interview. The hearing of the case will begin on 27 October this year.

Each of them was released on a cash bail of Sh20,000.
