KCB aim to extend winning run at Prinsloo Sevens

KCB Rugby are confident of continuing their fine form as they head into the Prinsloo Sevens, the second leg of the 2025 National Sevens Circuit, set to take place at the Nakuru Athletics Club this weekend.
The bankers, fresh from a dramatic 15-14 victory over Strathmore Leos in the Driftwood Sevens final in Mombasa, are determined to build on their success and keep their position at the top of the standings. They lead the circuit with 22 points, followed closely by Leos on 19 and Kabras Sugar with 17.
KCB have been drawn into Pool C alongside Nondescripts, Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA), and Kisumu RFC — a mix of opponents that head coach Dennis ‘Ironman’ Mwanja says his team is ready to face.
“We know the task ahead is not going to be easy, but we are more than ready to take on any opponent we will face,” Mwanja said during training at their Ruaraka base. “The boys have trained well, and the confidence within the camp is encouraging. We are going all in to win it.”

The team will be boosted by the return of Kenya Sevens captain George ‘Japolo’ Ooro, who missed the Mombasa final due to muscle cramps. Ooro expressed his eagerness to return to action and help his side maintain their momentum.
“Everyone will be eager to play KCB RFC at the Prinsloo Sevens. I know for a fact that everyone wants to beat us,” Ooro said. “It is going to be an amazing outing, and I cannot wait to play after my difficult show in Mombasa. I am settling in well and ready to leave a mark.”
KCB’s victory in Mombasa showcased the depth and quality in their squad, with players like Floyd Wabwire and Vincent Onyala standing out. Wabwire’s explosive runs and Onyala’s composure under pressure were vital in securing the narrow win against Strathmore Leos.
Coach Mwanja is expected to retain most of the squad that triumphed in Driftwood, with only minimal changes anticipated. The travelling team includes Jenkins Kipruto, Vincent Onyala, Emmanuel Opondo, Festus Shiasi, Elvis Olukusi, Bob Muhati, Floyd Wabwire, Dominic Sande, Steven Osumba, George Ooro, Davies Nyaundi, Michael Wekesa, and Lionel Ajeliti.
With competition heating up in the National Sevens Circuit, the Prinsloo Sevens offers another chance for KCB to assert their dominance early in the season. Their closest rivals, Strathmore Leos and Kabras Sugar, will also be in action and looking to close the gap at the top of the standings.
Fans in Nakuru are expected to turn out in large numbers to watch the country’s best sevens teams battle it out. For KCB, the goal is clear — to win again and keep their perfect run alive.
