Ruiru Sports Club sets stage for bigger golf tournaments

The curtains may have fallen on the third edition of the Institute of Public Finance (IPF) Golf Tournament. Still, Ruiru Sports Club is already looking ahead with renewed ambition to make the annual event one of the premier fixtures in Kenya’s golfing calendar.

The 2025 tournament drew a record turnout of over 200 golfers, signalling growing interest from players across Nairobi and beyond. The spirited competition, marked by standout performances such as Anthony Muigai’s overall victory with 42 points, has set a high benchmark for the years ahead.

According to Club Captain Justus Mathenge, the tournament is primed for expansion and greater recognition in the region. “The energy and competitiveness we witnessed this year point to an even brighter future. We want Ruiru to be known as a center of golfing excellence, and the IPF Tournament is becoming a key part of that journey,” he said.

Players who excelled this year are also expected to build on their form as they prepare for upcoming competitions. Rising talents like Ladies Winner Judy Nyambura and junior standout Mumbi Gatu showcased promise that could see them dominate future events.

Organisers have hinted at more corporate partnerships, enhanced prize packages, and expanded categories to attract an even more diverse pool of golfers in future editions. The club also plans to leverage its strategic location along Thika Superhighway to bring the game closer to both seasoned players and new enthusiasts.

The 2025 event was not just a test of skill but also a celebration of community and camaraderie — a spirit the club is keen to nurture as it eyes a bigger stage for golf in Kenya.
