Relieve as 7000 patients receive free treatment

It was a relief for 7000 sick people affected by the ongoing nurses' strike in Trans-Nzoia County after they received free treatment from Precise Healthcare.

The locals streamed to JKUAT Kitale campus, Bikeke, and Naisambu, where a team of 100 doctors pitched a tent to offer them free treatment.

The team from St Luke's Orthopaedic and Trauma Eldoret, Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, Equity Afya, Kitale Hospital, and Wamalwa Kijana Teaching and Referral Hospital took part in the daylong event.

The medical clinic was organised by Christ The Answer Ministry (CITAM).

An official from CITAM, Peter Odera, said they partnered with the health providers to support the vulnerable community to receive both spiritual and medical healing.

Odera said the church has the responsibility to ensure its congregation is healthy both spiritually and physically.

"As a church, we reached out to Christian medical practitioners to hold the medical clinic, purposely targeting the vulnerable community," said Odera.

Dr Theophilus Wangata of Precise Healthcare said the free medical clinic was set to cushion families unable to meet the cost of treatment, adding that it was a way of giving back to society.

Dr Nathan Ajichi from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, who coordinated the clinic, disclosed that the majority of the people who turned up for screening and treatment suffered eye-related problems.

Dr Ojichi said the beneficiaries were dispensed with drugs and also advised to embrace regular screening for advanced, effective treatment.

The beneficiaries said they have been suffering because of the strike by nurses.

"It is a big relief for us. God has responded to our suffering by touching the hearts of the medical team and the leadership of CITAM," explained Mary Wambui, a patient with an eye problem.

Beatrice Nasimiyu said she is happy that her daughter, who is suffering from a stroke and injuries on her left leg, has received treatment.

"For some days, I have been moving here and there seeking medication for my daughter without success. Today I'm happy that she has been attended to and treated," he said.
